Salon Suite Brands
Salon suite and chair franchises in South Africa let stylists run independent businesses under one roof with shared costs and a flexible outlet format.

How salon suite franchises operate
Salon suite and chair franchises typically convert a retail or commercial unit into multiple private or semi-private spaces, each let out to a stylist, nail tech or therapist. The franchisee may own the outlet outright or sublet chairs or suites on flexible monthly terms.
Most outlets run with minimal direct staff, as each professional manages their own bookings, stock and service menu. The franchisee focuses on facility upkeep, compliance, marketing the location and handling leases. Outlets often operate long hours, including weekends and later evenings, to match clients’ needs.
What to compare between franchisors
Salon suite and chair models look similar at first glance, but the franchise offer can vary. Review the franchise agreement and disclosure document closely before you commit. Pay attention to the following points.
- Upfront franchise and fit-out fees, plus ongoing royalties and marketing levies
- Support for finding locations, negotiating leases and setting up outlets
- Training for you as the operator, and onboarding guides for stylists
- Stock partner terms for shared products, cleaning or group purchasing deals
- Rules on minimum suite occupancy and subletting
- Territory limits or exclusivity, and renewal or exit terms
Red flags in disclosure documents
Section 7 of the Consumer Protection Act requires the franchise agreement to be in writing and mention your right to cancel within 10 business days after signing. A signed disclosure document from the franchisor is required to reach you no fewer than 14 days before any agreement is signed.
Be cautious if the disclosure omits outlet numbers, historical turnover, net profit or a recent solvency statement. Check the organogram to see who provides support. If projections are given, look for the underlying assumptions and request the auditor’s or accounting officer’s certificate.
What to prepare for your review
Gather your own experience as an operator, your available capital, and details about possible locations. If you already have stylists who want to join or a target mall in mind, note that upfront.
Bring any early drafts of agreements or disclosure documents. We can help you check territory definitions, working capital needs, and what support to expect, before you sign or commit to any fit-out.
